USI (1-6) is looking to get back on track during the homestand after three-straight on the road over the Thanksgiving week. The Screaming Eagles finished strong, but lost at ninth-ranked Duke University Friday, 80-62. Junior guard Jeremiah Hernandez (Chicago, Illinois) led USI with 15 points, while sophomore guard/forward AJ Smith (Edwardsville, Illinois) and junior guard Javius Moore (McComb, Mississippi) followed with 11 points each. Smith also completed a double-double with 13 rebounds.
For the season, Hernandez and Smith lead USI in scoring with 12.7 points and 12.1 points per game, respectively. Smith also is averaging a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game.
East/West enters Tuesday’s game looking for its first victory of the season after starting with an 0-12 mark.
Following Tuesday’s game, the homestand will continue December 2 when USI hosts Bowling Green State University and concludes December 6 versus Purdue University Ft. Wayne. Tipoff versus Bowling Green is 3 p.m., while tipoff against Ft. Wayne is slated for 7 p.m.
