COLUMBUS, Ohio ––– Indiana Field Hockey defeated the Cornell Big Red 2-1 on Friday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Hoosiers sit at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in neutral site matches.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Hoosiers came in hot, with fourth year forward/midfielder Theresa Ricci scoring in the first minute of the match. Assisted by second year forward/ midfielder Molly Stutte, they took the early 1-0 lead.
• In the second, IU defensive efforts would allow Cornell to take just one shot. Despite opportunities in the circle, the score remained 1-0 going into the break.
• As the third quarter began, Cornell’s Uma Kading knocked in a goal to make it one-all (1-1). The tie wouldn’t last long, as third year forward Charlotte Gasper would knock in a goal in the final minute of the third frame to give the Hoosiers a 2-1 advantage as play moved into the final quarter.
• IU maintained its lead as the game wrapped up, with first year goalkeeper Isa Smulders staying busy in the cage to defend shots from the Big Red.
