BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana softball earned six National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region Honorees. Sophomore pitcher Brianna Copeland and designated player Taylor Minnick were named First Team All-Region in addition to the conference Freshman and Player of the year Taryn Kern.
Freshman catcher Avery Parker was selected to the Second Team All-Region with redshirt junior outfielder Cora Bassett and sophomore first baseman Sarah Stone earning Third Team All-Region nods.
Team 50’s six honorees represent the most NFCA All-Region selections for Indiana softball.
Copeland holds a 21-3 record inside the circle boasting a 2.86 ERA. She has recorded 135 strikeouts in 159 innings pitched. The Pelham, Ala., native has made 43 appearances with 25 starts on the season. Offensively, Copeland is hitting .327. She has tallied 55 hits with 13 home runs, one triple and 46 RBI and is tied for a team high in doubles (15).
Kern earns the First Team accolade after being named Big Ten Freshman and Player of Year. She leads the team with a .411 batting average and a .959 slugging percentage. The freshman has a team high 60 hits, with 65 runs including 12 doubles, one triple and 67 RBI. Kern has hit 22 home runs and is tied second in the nation for most this season.
Minnick, who earned All-Big Ten First Team, is batting a .408 making 54 starts in her sophomore season. She holds the teams second-highest batting average and is tied for most hits on the season with 60. The Bloomington, Ind., native has hit 14 doubles, one triple and 12 home runs for a .762 slugging percentage.
Parker is hitting .315 in her freshman season and has made 53 starts. She has tallied 47 hits, nine doubles, one triple and 13 home runs. The Westfield, Ind., native has had a stellar year behind the plate with a .964 fielding percentage. Most recently, she was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team.
Bassett has played in 107 games totaling 122 runs scored, 119 hits, 18 home runs and 62 RBI in her Hoosier career. She was named First Team All-Big Ten as a junior and earned NFCA All-Region Second Team. She has helped lead the Hoosiers to 23-game program record win streak as a leadoff hitter in the Indiana lineup. Bassett holds a .324 with 65 runs, with 57 hits and 28 RBI. The Newburgh, Ind., native has hit three leadoff homers out of her five on the season holding a .455 on base percentage and a .524 slugging percentage. Bassett earned Big Ten Player of the Week after batting .500 in the series sweep over Michigan.
Stone, an All-Big Ten Second Team performer, has started in 57 games for the Hoosiers at first base. She earns the accolade with 47 hits and 61 RBI. The Bedford, Ind., native has hit 13 doubles, two triples and nine home runs. Stone holds a .532 slugging percentage and a .983 fielding percentage.
