The Purple Aces are looking to close out their road schedule on a high note as they head to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a showdown with the Northern Iowa Panthers this Thursday.
Thursday’s game will feature some of the best defensive playmakers in the Missouri Valley Conference. Evansville’s senior guard Júlia Palomo has been a force on defense, leading the Aces with 47 steals this season and ranking eighth in the MVC with 1.7 steals per game. She’ll go head-to-head with UNI’s top defenders, junior forward Ryley Gobel (2.1 steals per game, fifth in the MVC) and senior guard Maya McDermott (1.4 steals per game, Top 10 in the conference). The Panthers enter the matchup at 14-13 overall and 9-7 in Valley play, powered by a strong trio of McDermott, Gobel, and senior Kayba Laube, each averaging double figures in scoring.
After Thursday, the Aces return home for a big in-state battle with Indiana State on Saturday, March 1. The game at Meeks Family Fieldhouse will be a rare Saturday night showdown, with both teams competing for valuable seeding in the 2025 Credit Union 1 MVC Women’s Basketball Tournament. Evansville will be looking for redemption after Indiana State took the first meeting in January, and with the energy of the home crowd behind them, the Aces are ready to make a statement.
Sophomore forward Maggie Hartwig has been on fire in Valley play, dominating on both ends of the floor. She led Evansville in scoring and rebounding last weekend, averaging an incredible double-double with 21.5 points and 12 rebounds per game. With back-to-back double-doubles, Hartwig now has nine this season, tying for third-most in the Valley alongside Drake’s Anna Miller and Illinois State’s Nevaeh Thomas. Her nine double-doubles are the most by an Aces player since forward Abby Feit’s standout 2021-22 season, when she recorded 13.
