EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Morgan Adams and Taylor Howe recorded home runs to lead the University of Evansville softball team to a 4-2 victory over Indiana State on Tuesday at Tri-State Orthopaedics Field at James and Dorothy Cooper Stadium.
Indiana State opened the scoring with an unearned run in the top of the first. Evansville tied the game in the bottom of the second when Morgan Adams launched her 14th home run of the season.
Taylor Howe gave the Purple Aces their first lead of the game in the third. Kynadee Warner reached on a bunt single before Howe hit a 2-run home run to put UE in front for the first time at 3-1. Looking to tie the game in the fourth, Indiana State put two runners in scoring position while Gracie Hollingsworth was able to end the threat with a groundout.
Keghan Pye scored to push the lead to 4-1. Pinch running following a single by Adams, Pye stole second before swiping third when Zoe Frossard reached on a walk. Heads-up baserunning by Pye saw her steal home while Frossard was caught in a rundown.
It proved to be important insurance as ISU plated its second run in the top of the sixth. The Sycamores looked to add more, but a huge play by Taylor Howe saw her catch a line drive before throwing a runner out at first for the inning-ending double play. From there, the Aces held strong to finish with the victory.
One week after tossing a complete game shutout versus the Sycamores, Hollingsworth threw another solid game. She allowed two unearned runs in six hits in another complete game effort. It marked her 7th win of the season.
UE is back on the road this weekend for a 3-game series at Murray State.
