LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior first baseman Lauryn Borzilleri clubbed two home runs Tuesday night as Kentucky beat Western Kentucky 9-1 in six innings at John Cropp Stadium to pick up its 27th win of the season.
Borzilleri’s homers came in the bottom of the third and fifth innings Tuesday night and were her third and fourth homers of the season overall. The junior from Riverside, California went 2-for-3 on the night with a season-high four runs batted in and seven putouts at the first-base bag. Borzilleri’s homers were part of a four home run night for the Wildcats, who also got a solo shot from catcher Hallie Mitchell in the bottom of the fifth and a walk-off three-run bomb from freshman Allie Blum to end the game.
Julie Kelley got the start for UK, going the opening 2.1 innings of the game, allowing only one run with a strikeout. Carson Fall then entered the game in relief and picked up her fifth win of the season to improve to 5-3 on the year in the circle as she pitched the final 3.2 innings with only one hit allowed to the 15 Hilltoppers she faced and recorded three strikeouts. It was Fall’s second win in the last three games for UK in the circle as the freshman from Bridge City, Texas is picking up steam.

With Tuesday night’s result, Kentucky is now a season-high tying 10 games over the .500 mark and sits at 27-17 on the year overall. The Wildcats will step back into Southeastern Conference play beginning Saturday afternoon at No. 7/8 South Carolina in Columbia. The series cadence will be Saturday, Sunday, Monday with Monday night’s game serving as SEC Network’s Series of the Week Mic’d Up Monday at 7 p.m. ET. WKU is now 21-19.

Delani Sullivan was the key player, going 2-for-3 with and RBI single through the left side to score UK’s first run and she also had a single later in the game.

Borzilleri hammered a ball to left in her third at bat of the game with one out to give UK some insurance and put the Wildcats up 5-1. One batter later, Hallie Mitchell clubbed her fourth homer of the season to right field and gave UK its largest lead of the game. UK 6, WKU 1
In the bottom of the sixth, Allie Blum hit a three-run, two-out, walk-off home run to send Big Blue Nation home early and give the Wildcats the win in run-rule fashion. FINAL – Kentucky 9, Western Kentucky 1 (F/6)
